Barnevelder ....
Double Laced Standard & Blue Laced Barnevelders
The Barnevelder is a medium heavy breed of chicken named after the Dutch town of Barnevled. Barnevelders are hardy chickens, good foragers and a dual-purpose breed (both for eggs and meat).
They most commonly appear as single and double laced Black/brown but there is now an increasing interest in the Blue and Silver laced Barnevelers. Over the past three years, we have also been breeding whites and splash. Very interesting colours.
Barnevelders lay approx. 200 plus dark brown (rich terracotter) eggs a year. The hens go broody occasionally. We entered our Barnevelder hen eggs into the Kilcoy show and won FIRST PRIZE in BEST BROWN EGGS... THREE YEARS IN A ROW!! Well done girls - proud effort!
